Details and additional information about NAVA 3: NAVA News Vol. 3, no. 1 (1969) and ICV 3 at FIAV
The NAVA 3 / ICV 3 Flag:
The flag, used both as the flag of the 3rd International Congress of Vexillology and the 3rd annual meeting of the North American Vexillological Association, was designed by Whitney Smith. It has a white field with a triangle of royal blue whose apex is at the center of the fly and whose base is along the hoist. There are three golden yellow crowns vertically aligned at the hoist. The colors are meant to recall the blue and white banner of the Zurich ICV Congress and the blue and gold of the FIAV flag. The colors are also those of the City of Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The three crowns symbolize that this was the third formal meeting of both organizations, and are also very characteristic of Boston. The triangle is a spearhead to new achievements in the field of flag research which the Congress promoted.
Organizing Committee: Whitney Smith and Pierre C. Lux-Wurm.
Significant Events:
- Opening ceremonies included raising of the flag of the International Federation of Vexillological Associations and the flag of the Third International Congress on Marsh Plaza of Boston University.
- The charter members, including NAVA, of the Fédération internationale des associations vexillologiques (FIAV) joined on September 7, 1969.
