Recently in the news I have seen this Ukrainian flag defaced with the Ukrainian Trident in the upper hoist side (see attached) used in an official capacity by the Ukrainian government. I had seen this flag before, but I had assumed it was just an unofficial variant. Can anyone tell me what this flag is and what it represents?
