Renew Membership

If you are a current Association member, please remember to renew your membership by the first of the year. Click here to go to the Philosophy Documentation Center (PDC) webpage where you can pay your annual membership dues. The Association has enlisted the support of PDC, a non-profit company dedicated to helping non-profit academic-oriented organizations with their membership and access to and distribution of their scholarly journals.

IMPORTANT: All Association members who paid dues for the previous year should have received an e-mail from with your new username and password. Your assigned password is the same as the PDC “Customer number.” Enter your assigned password into the field labeled “Customer number” on the first PDC webpage and hit “Submit” to bring up your initial profile. Then simply follow the directions to pay your dues.

After submitting your dues payment and receiving an acknowledgment from PDC, please click here to go to the Member Area Login where you can enter your e-mailed username and password to gain access to the newly revamped Member Area. Please complete your Member Profile (which populates the Members Directory) and fill out your Member History, a new section that has been added which is searchable by members.

In addition, you will find a Member Forums for discussions with fellow members on pertinent vexillological topics, as well as FAQs to help you use the new website. Click here to contact the Association and select “Membership” in the category menu.

Note that you can change your NAVA username and password for accessing the Member Area. While it does not have to match, we suggest that if you change your NAVA password, also change your PDC password to avoid confusion. Your PDC username and PDC customer number cannot be changed. Members will receive an e-mail from PDC explaining the members-only access to Raven: A Journal of Vexillology. You may renew your membership by mail, but using the online system is quicker. If you still want to renew by mail, print out the membership application, fill in the requested information, and mail it with your dues to the address below (which is also on the form). All payments must be either by: (1) check drawn on Canadian or U.S. funds; (2) money order; or (3) international postal money order payable in U.S. dollars. Do not send cash payments. Please make all checks or money orders payable to “Philosophy Documentation Center” and write “NAVA” on the memo line. Please mail your completed application with your dues to:

Your membership renewal normally takes 3 to 4 weeks. You will receive all publications for the calendar year in which you pay dues, regardless of the date your membership renewal was processed.

Membership Categories
There are three types of paid membership:

  1. Active membership is open to any individual eighteen years of age or older. Active members may attend meetings, vote on matters submitted to the membership, hold appointed offices, and serve on most committees and receive all publications (Raven: A Journal of Vexillology; Flag Research Quarterly; NAVA News; and Semaphore e-bulletin) without additional cost. Active members in Canada and the U.S. may hold elected office and serve on the nominating committee. Active members are eligible for one free non-commercial exhibit table at the annual meeting. Dues are US$40 annually. For full-time undergraduate and graduate students, including those who have finished course work and are working on qualifying or comprehensive examinations, theses, or dissertations, dues are just US$20 annually.
  2. Associate membership is open only to spouses of active members and individuals under the age of eighteen. Associate members have all the privileges of active members except voting and holding elective office. Dues are US$20 annually.
  3. Organizational membership is open to any non-profit or for-profit organization. Organizational members have all the privileges of active members except holding office. They receive preferred rates on advertising and exhibit space at the annual meeting, and a listing on An organizational member may designate an individual to represent the organization in the Association. Dues are US$60 annually.

Any school, library, or other institution may subscribe to the Association’s publications for US$40 annually.
