Who can join?
Any individual or organization interested in vexillology and agreeing to subscribe to NAVA’s Bylaws is welcome to join NAVA. Memberships are on a calendar-year basis.
There are three types of paid membership:
- Active membership is open to any individual 18 or older. Active members may attend meetings, vote on matters submitted to the membership, hold appointed offices, and serve on most committees and receive all publications (Raven: A Journal of Vexillology; Flag Research Quarterly; NAVA News; and Semaphore e-bulletin) without additional cost. Active members residing in Canada and the United States may hold elected office and serve on the nominating committee. Active members are eligible for one free non-commercial exhibit table at the annual meeting. Dues are US$40 annually. Active/Students: For full-time undergraduate and graduate students over 17, including those who have finished coursework and are working on qualifying or comprehensive examinations, theses, or dissertations, dues are US$20 annually.
- Associate membership is open only to individuals under 18 and spouses of active members. Associate members have all the privileges of active members except voting and holding elective office. Dues are US$20 annually.
- Organizational membership is open to any non-profit or for-profit organization. Organizational members have all the privileges of active members except holding office. They receive preferred rates on exhibit space at the annual meeting, and a listing on NAVA.org. An organizational member may designate an individual to represent the organization in NAVA governance. Dues are US$60 annually.
Subscription: Any school, library, or other institution may subscribe to NAVA’s publications for US$40 annually.
How to Join NAVA or Renew Your Membership
You may also join by mail, by printing out the membership application, fill in the requested information, and mail it to the address below (which is also on the form). Pay your dues via PayPal.com, directed to email@example.com, or make your payment by check drawn on Canadian or US funds or a money order payable in US dollars, and payable to “NAVA”. Notes about Membership Applications
Your membership will be processed after your first year’s dues are received. This normally takes 3 to 4 weeks. You will receive all publications for the calendar year in which you pay dues, regardless of the date your membership was processed. Dues are payable on an annual basis (1 January to 31 December) and are not prorated. Memberships lapse if not renewed by March 31 of the following year.
The Association is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, and membership dues and other donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed under United States law and article XXI of the 1980 United States-Canada Income Tax Convention, as amended.
